SUMMARY:Michael McNevin & Midnight Cowboy
DESCRIPTION:Come and join us for an amazing night with Michael McNevin and the film Midnight Cowboy. No cover and wonderful. Hosted by Ginger Murray. \nMidnight Cowboy\, 1969\nhttps://www.criterion.com/films/29369-midnight-cowboy\nFilm courtesy of Shannon Ellery Hubbell of lewtonbus.net. \nMichael McNevin – Songwriter has a vivid brand of story telling. He grew up in the train town of Niles\, CA\, in the east bay hills of the SF Bay with his three older brothers. His songs read like short stories\, full of heart\, humor\, and a keen eye for detail. Accomplished guitar work and seasoned vocals underscore the characters and places he comes across in his travels. He started his career in East Bay bars\, mixing in six-months busking the streets and subways of New York. Michael has since logged 25 years on the U.S. songwriter circuit\, playing some of the bigger music festivals around. He tours as a solo act in the US and parts of Europe\, and occasionally gets a band together as McNevin & The Spokes. He’s shared hall stages with Johnny Cash & The Carter Family\, Donovan\, Shawn Colvin\, Utah Phillips\, Christine Lavin\, Richie Havens\, Iris Dement\, Greg Brown\, The T Sisters\, California Honeydrops\, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott\, and many of others. He’s been a main-stager at Strawberry\, High Sierra\, Kerrville\, Redwood Ramble\, American River\, and Philly Folk Festivals. Winner of the Kerrville New-Folk award in Texas\, a “DYI Artist Of The Year” for Performing Songwriter Magazine\, 7-time winner of “Song Of The Year” for West Coast Songwriters. He’s had TV features on CBS Evening Magazine\, NBC\, and ABC\, and numerous reviews in mags and rags around the states.\nwww.michaelmcnevin.com \n“…heard you on the KFOG acoustic Sunday morning show …bagging groceries and an Etch-A-Sketch. Two of my historical accomplishments — dig the tunes.”\n~ Tony Bennett \n“I don’t know what’s best about ‘Sketch’ – Michael McNevin’s music or his Etch-A-Sketch drawings that accompany each song. McNevin is a singer songwriter of the highest order…”\n~ Acoustic Guitar Magazine \n“Secondhand Story” is an evocative peek into a stranger’s life.”\n~ Chicago Tribune \n“The talent of Michael McNevin lies in his ability to extract juicy bits of life from his surroundings and let a tale unravel from each one.”\n~ The Performing Songwriter Magazine \nRecent house concert clip:\nhttps://www.facebook.com/caroline.testard.5/videos/10155299004411981/hc_ref=ARQWbnlg8qY6orPeXyrOAzEDwpX_TJ3xniHmOaL1iEcmL6HQvhzQGPDO5u3LuZ-5cnM \nMichael also owns and operates “The Mudpuddle Shop”\, a converted 1920’s 15’x15′ barbershop in Niles\, now into it’s 13th year. When he’s not on tour\, the shop serves as a creative hive for concerts\, swaps\, jams\, and songwriting workshops. He’s also an Etch A Sketch artist of some renown (not kidding) – he illustrates his lyrics on the little red toy\, dumfounding audiences. His drawings have hung proudly in galleries around the country\, the Baseball Hall Of Fame\, and on the Mudpuddle Shop walls\, waiting for an earthquake.

SUMMARY:The Bogues & A Hard Day's Night
DESCRIPTION:Come and join us for a wild and rollicking night of music and film with The BOGUES and A Hard Day’s night. No cover and great fun. Hosted by Ginger Murray. \nA Hard Day’s Night\, one of the most influential musical films\, remains the zenith of rocksploitation and is considered a forefather of the music video. Part comedy\, part cinéma vérité\, it also launched the career of director Richard Lester and obviously\, the Beatles. Film courtesy of Shannon Ellery Hubbell of Lewtonbus.net. The Little film Review Site that Could. \nLive Music – The BOGUES.\nThe Bogues are a San Francisco based 8-10 piece Pogues celebration band founded by Bay Area songwriter and British Isles transplant Paul Griffiths.”With our bouzouki\, tin whistle\, banjo\, accordion\, mandolin\, guitar\, fiddle\, drums\, and\, when circumstances demand\, trombone\, we celebrate the genius of Shane MacGowan and The Pogues\, inspired by their fiery mix of traditional Irish folk and blood and guts rock ‘n’ roll. Tom Waits described them as ‘brandy of the damned.” For their inaugural show on Saint Patrick’s night in 2012\, San Francisco’s Make Out Room invited The BOGUES to perform the definitive Pogues album ‘Rum\, Sodomy\, and the Lash’ in its entirety. The band has since been invited to play all over the Bay Area. The Bogues include many of the Bay Area’s finest musicians\, and guest luminaries (and Pogues fans) such as the late Ralph Carney (Tom Waits/Elvis Costello/Allen Ginsberg)\, Joshua Raoul Brody (Everyone(!!!) including Robin Williams and Tom Waits)\, Kevin T. White (Chuck Prophet)\, and storyteller Bryan McCaul of Coote Hill\, Ireland. \nhttps://www.paulgriffithsmusic.com/bogues \nStay after for the Active Music Series by Robert Lopez

SUMMARY:Breathless (1960) | Paul Griffiths & Meredith Edgar
DESCRIPTION:Two-Piece Tuesdays Presents: Breathless | Paul Griffiths & Meredith Edgar \nTuesday\, May 9 \n7pm \nCome and join us for a great night of French new wave film and the sweet music of Paul Griffiths & Meredith Edgar — Americana\, folk\, and jazz. \nNo cover. \nFacebook RSVP \nFilm ~ Breathless (1960)\n“There was before Breathless\, and there was after Breathless. Jean-Luc Godard burst onto the film scene in 1960 with this jazzy\, free-form\, and sexy homage to the American film genres that inspired him as a writer for Cahiers du cinéma. With its lack of polish\, surplus of attitude\, anything-goes crime narrative\, and effervescent young stars Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg\, Breathless helped launch the French New Wave and ensured that cinema would never be the same.” – Criterion Collection\nFilm courtesy of Shannon Ellery Hubbel of Lewtonbus.net \nMusic ~ Paul Griffiths & Meredith Edgar\nPaul Griffiths is a singer/songwriter known and widely admired for such timeless classics as “Headless Body in a Topless Bar.” Meredith Edgar plies the same trade\, writing and performing her songs about bittersweet love\, drowning\, mistakes\, the ocean\, and the dark underbelly of relationships”.\nwww.paulgriffithsmusic.com \nMeredith Edgar is a San Francisco Bay Area native\, recently returned from a five-year stay in Austin\, Texas. Meredith’s songs are melancholy and melodic\, and combine her loves of folk\, jazz\, and Americana.\nhttps://www.meredithedgar.com/ \nPaul and Meredith are going to be joined this evening by Sean Silverman on upright bass and Charlie Hancock on accordion. \nStay After for the Active Music Series

Seas\, starfish\, and growing.\nFilm courtesy of Shannon Ellery Hubbell of www.lewtonbus.net \nMusic ~ Silvio Correia\nBorn in Salvador / Bahia in the seventies. Silvio Correia has developed an artistic style with an eclectic composition. His style and presence encourages interpretation of music in a visceral way and has veins of existentialism.with elements of countless citations of people who cherish radical. It invites listeners to reflect on their freedoms\, and to express themselves\, to love\, and to think. Silvio Correia ‘s music is lyrically clever and musically diverse. In short\, all stories of our communities and our world. \nMy music explores inevitable dualities in life. Pleasure and sadness\, insanity and desire-Yin and Yang. My song\, “Oh World” is about my desire to spread love and music as my contribution to paradise and a call for others to reconnect to themselves too. To perform a collective reconstruction of our world with love. \nI’m excited to be collaborating with so many highly respected and gifted artists including …. Marcos Odara (Percussion)\, Vicente De Jesus (sound engendering\, drums\, recording)\, Collin Miller (Viola)\, Danilo Portugal (Various)\, Silvio Correia/Me (guitars/vocals). \nThe vibrant melodies exude energy. SUMMARY:Two Piece Tuesdays presents Ed Ivey & JL Stiles
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a night of the film the Red Turtle and the live stylings of Ed Ivey and JL Stiles. Free. \nFilm: The Red Turtle. \nA 2016 animated fantasy film co-written and directed by Dutch-British animator Michaël Dudok de Wit and produced by Toshio Suzuki from Japan. The film tells the story of a man who becomes shipwrecked on a deserted island and meets a giant red turtle. The film was nominated for the Best Animated Feature Film for the 89th Academy Awards. \nFilm courtesy of Shannon Ellery Hubbel of www.lewtonbus.net \nEd Ivey & JL Stiles ~ Jazz & Awesome: 7 to 9pm. \nRagtime guitar\, harmonica and vocals. \nEd Ivey ~ is a Texas-born musician from a musical family in far West Texas. Ivey played in pioneer El Paso punk band Rhythm Pigs. Moving to San Francisco in the mid-Eighties\, Ivey and his band recorded five original albums and toured heavily in North America and Europe. When the band broke up\, Ivey worked in Texas as newspaper reporter until moving back to San Francisco in 1992. \nA Grammy nominee (2011)\, Ivey has been a standout in the San Francisco music scene for decades. He has been a lightning rod in the city’s music scene\, putting together new combinations of players and teaching New Orleans brass band tradition to school kids. He has played with noted Texas singer Gary Floyd\, ragtime man Dan Hicks\, bluesman JJ Malone\, surf-mariachi act Los Mex Pistols Del Norte\, eclectic uke band Old Puppy\, blues harp ace Jay Gaunt and many more. \nJL Stiles ~ is a unique animal who for the first time is merging two totally different fields of truth seeking: Ragtime blues and higher mathematics. Both of these disparate strands filtered through a lifetime on the run\, searching for a universal truth from psychedelic Brazilian forests to US college campuses and further into his own unique vision. JL Stiles has a mind that sees music in a similar way to how J.S. Bach saw music. However\, Bach never played the blues. \nAs for the blues: JL has opened for many a blues great\, including BB King\, Etta James and JJ Cale. Surprisingly\, looking at such a history\, most of his originals would not be considered blues or folkways yet Maybelle Carter\, Blind Blake and the rest of his honored forebears haunt everything he does\, including his upcoming song-of-the-ages album\, JL Stiles presents House of Murmurs\, on which producer Etienne de Rocher (Sean Hayes) plied his remarkable talents. It’s a bit confounding to box a one-off like JL\, so the artist decided to mostly reserve his stunning ragtime and blues guitar madness for his other band\, Hobo Paradise\, which tears the house down regularly in San Francisco. \nJL’s touring history includes a consistent presence on the West Coast and currently expanding to a nationwide audience via his latest release\, which has garnered national press and national radio play. \nhttp://www.jlstiles.com/

SUMMARY:Two Piece Tuesdays presents Street of Crocodiles
DESCRIPTION:Two Piece Tuesdays welcomes you to indulge in wild and wonderful film and live expression. Free. Followed by the Active Music Series. This month we are featuring Street of Crocodiles by the Brothers Quay. \nFilm: Based loosely on the Polish writer/artist Bruno Schulz’s Cinnamon Shops (1934)\, Crocodiles is an intoxicating mélange of live action\, puppetry\, and stop-motion animation. Like so much of the Quay’s work\, the film confounds descriptive distinctions between the beautiful and the repulsive\, the seductive and the repellant; in fact\, the world of Crocodiles is one in which aesthetic definitions are collapsed and diffused\, leaving in their wake an intangible yet implacable haze of atmosphere and sensation. What emerges is a realm of sense and substance that speaks directly to\, and of\, the most visceral dimensions of being and consciousness.\nFilm courtesy of Shannon Ellery Hubbell of http://lewtonbus.net/ \nLive: Storytelling by Ginger Murray. Comedy\, music and more \nGinger Murray is a writer and performance storyteller. She has appeared just about everywhere and done just about everything. She is also an avid lover of bad girls\, radical idiots\, and thinkers. She delights in wild expressions\, stories\, and the adventures of sublime chaos.
