SUMMARY:Two Piece Tuesdays presents Alzara & Brother Spellbinder
DESCRIPTION:A regular weekly event offering live local music\, Taropy with Miss Ginger and delicious cocktails. There is no cover and much magic. Music from 8 to 10pm. \nPresenting………Alzara & Brother Spellbinder \nAlzara & Brother Spellbinder play well-crafted songs that might be defined as cabaret-folk rock with a dreamy\, old-world ache and a modern melodic edge.\nBrother Spellbinder veers off the beaten track with plaintive vocals\, unusual arrangements\, and a variety of textures. Incorporating elements of folk\, gypsy jazz and indie\, the music moves from rousing and infectious to dreamy and fragile. Lyrics flow from the uncensored mythical realm of the human psyche to the here and now of human experience. Brother Spellbinder aims to enchant in the age of disenchantment. \nThe daughter of Big Brother & The Holding Co.’s original drummer – Dave Getz – singer/songwriter Alzara Getz grew up in a rock-n-roll scene and learned early that music could move mountains. As a public health social worker her deep interest in how people heal – or not – is a source of inspiration for songwriting. After years of performing with a variety of bay area bands she decided it was time to lead her own. She formed Brother Spellbinder with roots guitarist Jamie Wilson in 2012. Wilson was an early graduate from San Francisco’s School of the Arts High School and counters Alzara’s dulcet voice with a dollop of gristle. Rice masters graduate Gabriel Beistline adds transcendent melodies and velvet bass tones on cello. Seasoned drummer Steve La Porta steers the songs with steady and intricate rhythms. Steve Bollhoefer charms the audience with playful improvs and occasional jumping jacks.\nhttp://www.brotherspellbinder.com/

SUMMARY:Two Piece Tuesdays presents "Dying Fables"
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our monthly celebration of Poetry\, Weird Film and Alt Music. There will be Taropy with Miss Ginger and cocktails too. There is no cover and much magic. 7 to 9pm. \nFilm ~ Jean Cocteau’s “The Blood of a Poet” (Le sang d’un poète). 1930. \n“Poets . . . shed not only the red blood of their hearts but the white blood of their souls\,” proclaimed Jean Cocteau of his groundbreaking first film—an exploration of the plight of the artist\, the power of metaphor and the relationship between art and dreams. One of cinema’s great experiments\, this first installment of the Orphic Trilogy stretches the medium to its limits in an effort to capture the poet’s obsession with the struggle between the forces of life and death.” \nThe film also features that great wild woman and astounding photographer – Lee Miller. \nScreening courtesy of Shannon Ellery Hubbell. http://www.shannonhubbell.com/ \nPoets: \nAndrew Paul Nelson ~ He was born in the desert. SUMMARY:Two Piece Tuesdays present Queer Sessions
DESCRIPTION:The 1st Tuesday of every month is Queer Sessions\, a celebration of local and live performers\, Taropy with Miss Ginger and bar treats with Victoria Victrola. Music starts at 8pm. There is no cover and much magic. \nFeature: Julie Indelicato and Willa Mamet \nJulie Indelicato has a cult following in her native San Francisco. With a voice that runs with the best of them—part Ella Fitzgerald\, part Amanda Palmer\, Julie is unlike anyone in today’s spotlight. She breathes an intoxicatingly delicate life into the songs she chooses: mostly obscure and flattering covers that illustrate her stripped-down acoustic melodies and a vocal range that could shake the dust off the highest chandelier of a burlesque parlor and make it dance\, tantalizing the hair of your inner ear. Julie brings a musical theatre air to each performance\, often charming the audience so that one feels as if they’ve known her forever—or wants to start now. She was also the host of Garden Sessions which inspired the very idea of this night. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fhss5JNJQzw \nWilla Mamet tried to major in music at school\, it was just too far from the kitchen table. Too many rules\, not enough Home. So mostly that’s how she sings. She grew up making music with her family and community. Willa makes her home in Oakland\, CA. http://www.kitchen-table-music.com/music-1/ \nBriget Boyle ~ A singer-songwriter and guitar player based in Oakland\, CA. With training in fields as diverse as Balkan folk singing\, African drum and dance\, Swedish massage\, and theatre tech\, Briget is an engaging and complex performer who brings a lifetime of discovery and struggle to her music. http://www.brigetboyle.com/ \nShe’s so amazing that I also reviewed her last album. https://medium.com/freelance-writer-archives/the-parts-interior-a-review-29702061c0ca#.bvcm6msbm \nElliott Geneste de Besme ~ Elliott has been arousing crowds since 2000 with his signature blend of spoken-word poetry and improvised song. He has shared tickets with Athens Boys Choir\, Stainless Steele (formerly of Diggable Planets)\, and his claim to fame is when he headlined for Michael Moore at a peace rally in Detroit\, MI\, in Spring of 2002. \nhttps://itunes.apple.com/us/album/universal-peacemakers/id444518710 \nAnd More…….

We was once mistaken for Dizzy Gillespie. He is a force to be reckoned with. He even has a surprise punk history. He was in the Mystic Knights of Oingo Boingo. I have also had the pleasure of spending a summer evening on his porch in Oakland while the trumpet sound sailed down the street and Lenny played the guitar while the sun set. There were really good smoked oysters too.\n( Bob is the voice over). Ballad of the Caveman. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1N7ATV4suw

SUMMARY:Two Piece Tuesday presents: Raise a Glass for Hillary
DESCRIPTION:Come on down for a special Two Piece Tuesday. There will still be Taropy with Miss Ginger and drink delights and music by Nell Maynard too. We will also be celebrating supporting Hillary Clinton for President. No cover! \nOakland for Hillary: The organizers of the Oakland for Hillary will be at this event. They will be bringing buttons and pins and even\, a card board cut out of Hillary herself. Perhaps\, some balloons. If you want to volunteer\, they can tell you how. If you want to support\, they can tell you how. If you would just like to hang out with other people who support Hillary\, here is your chance. Even those who have their reservations but would like to talk about it all are entirely welcome. She often plays with her full band Nell Maynard & the Ampersands around the Bay Area and will be embarking band-less on a national tour in October of 2016 and releasing the band’s first EP winter of 2016. http://www.nellmaynard.com/ \nSpecial Guest: Kim Lembo. kimlembomusic.com/ \n(The views expressed here are by Two Piece Tuesdays only and are not reflective of anyone else involved with the club. I\, Miss Ginger\, as host of these events am a Hillary supporter and am doing my part to help her win.)
