SUMMARY:POSTPONED ** Everyone Is Dirty\, The Helltones\, North By North\, The Y Axes
DESCRIPTION:Everyone Is Dirty is a new-wave post-punk rock band that hails from Oakland\, CA. Known for their manic live sets\, this band is captivating and futuristic\, with a strange electricity flowing through their sound. \nConceived in the waning months of 2015 by high school friends and bandmates Darwin Siegaldoud and Paul Bowman\, The Helltones have since snowballed into a six piece machine bent on getting your hips swaying and your toes tapping. The sound has matured with the addition of new members\, and now walks the line between the sultry and the savage with an uncanny grace. \nFormed in 2012\, North by North is the sweat-fueled rock & roll fever-dream of two childhood friends from the south side of Chicago. Their music was forged through years of teen angst\, twenty-something alienation and a profound belief that rock music can be genuinely clever and inventive. It’s a sound glued together by melodic hooks\, soaring vocals\, crushing guitar\, bombastic drums and the kind of untethered energy that has won crowds over hundreds of shows and dozens of festivals across three countries. \nThe Y Axes are a San Francisco-based indie outfit who play a unique blend of dreamy\, synth-glossed pop and rhythmically muscular rock. Having initially formed as a recording project by vocalist Alexi Rose Belchere and guitarist Devin Nelson\, their lineup completed by bassist Jack Sundquist and drummer Paul Conroy\, The Y Axes collaborate to create energetic and hard-hitting pop with intricate instrumentations and ethereal vocal melodies that can stick in your mind for weeks. \n – – – \n21+ with valid ID \nThe Uptown is located just around the corner from the 19th Street BART Station and is wheelchair accessible

SUMMARY:mssv (Mike Baggetta\, Mike Watt\, Stephen Hodges)
DESCRIPTION:Friday the 13th! \nPost-genre power trio mssv was formed early in 2019 when guitarist Mike Baggetta joined up with bassist Mike Watt (MINUTEMEN\, fIREHOSE\, The Stooges) and drummer Stephen Hodges (Mavis Staples\, Tom Waits\, David Lynch) to tour on his Wall of Flowers album (BIG EGO Records\, featuring Watt and drumming legend Jim Keltner). After a hugely successful US tour performing music that ran the gamut from original electro-free-jazz improvisations\, driving new-rock anthems and covers of The Stooges and more from Watt’s first punk rock opera “Contemplating the Engine Room”\, mssv has proved a fearless band.\nFeaturing live electronic processing by both Baggetta and Hodges\, as well as Watt’s relentlessly driving bass and vocals\, mssv has been able to not only show what it means to be a band in the modern post-genre landscape\, but is well on their way to defining it.\nmssv will release a new live album in December 1st on Striped Light Records and begin production on a new studio album that same month after this run of California-only preview shows.\n___\n“The chemistry is palpable\, the vibe is loose\, and the songs are all worlds unto themselves.” -Aquarium Drunkard \n“Mike Baggetta is a genre-blurring guitar hero…at the forefront of an army of guitar innovators”. -Brad Cohan\, JazzTimes \n“A true supergroup power trio\, ala a modern day Cream” -Guitar Moderne \n“Mike Baggetta makes stealthy\, mysterious music … he’s trying to do something personal with collective improvisation without ever getting in the way of beauty.” -Ben Ratliff\, New York Times \n“…a kind of post-Frisellian sonic explorer … with his wild whammy-bar articulations\, ambient looping and rippling arpeggios … full of subversive surprises\, hellacious skronking\, string-scraping and a general hornets’ nest of fuzz-toned dissonance” -Bill Milkowski\, DownBeat Magazine / Slate Magazine\n___\nopeners Henry Kaiser & Scott Amendola\nFor the past 40 years\, Bay Area-based radical guitarist\, ethnomusicologist and composer Henry Kaiser has been at the forefront of creative music. He has been nominated for a Grammy for his work with acclaimed director\, Werner Herzog and has conducted research as a scientific diver and videographer for the US Antarctic program. He has also been a pioneer in the realm of effects\, looping and extended techniques for the guitar. \nFor Scott Amendola\, the drum kit isn’t so much an instrument as a musical portal. Over a career spanning more than three decades\, Amendola has forged deep ties across the country\, and throughout the world. As an ambitious composer\, savvy bandleader\, electronics explorer\, first-call accompanist\, and capaciously creative foil for some of the world’s most inventive musicians\, Amendola applies his wide-ranging rhythmic virtuosity to a vast array of settings\n___\n21+ with valid ID\nThe Uptown is located just around the corner from the 19th Street BART station and is wheelchair accessible

SUMMARY:B Hamilton (record release show)\, Desiree Cannon\, Levi Thomas
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, November 22\n9pm \nFacebook RSVP\nTickets \nB. Hamilton – record release show.\nNothing and Nowhere LP will be out November 12th on Wolf and Knife records. \nWhat started as a bedroom project in 2010 for songwriter\, vocalist\, and guitarist Ryan Christopher Parks (whose collaborative track with Boots Riley “OYAHYTT” features heavily in Riley’s 2018 film “Sorry to Bother You.”) with the addition of Parks’ good friends Andrew Macy (Tall Grass) on bass\, and Raj Kumar Ojha on drums (Once and Future Band\, Shannon Shaw Band\, Howlin’ Rain)\, B. Hamilton has since become one of Oakland\, California’s staple Rock and Roll bands. With Parks’ moody\, atmospheric guitar riffs and lyrical ability to encapsulate entire characters and scenes within a few short minutes\, there is a decidedly driven\, cinematic feel to B. Hamilton’s sound. \nDesiree Cannon is an Oakland-based country-folk musician. Desiree pays tribute to the spirit of both the country and folk traditions\, crafting music that is as vulnerable as it is strong-willed and fierce – she sings with the raw truth of the country greats\, and the emotional depth of folk heroes. \nOakland dwelling musician Levi Thomas spent the first half of his twenties in his hometown of Springfield\, Missouri. Recorded in 2016 by Winston Goertz-Giffen at Santo Studio in Oakland\, Thomas’s debut album Billie draws from a lifetime of influences ranging from his Ozarks roots music upbringing to the cosmic troubadours of the early 70s\, with a nod to the down tempo neo-psychedelia of the early 90s.

SUMMARY:Jimbo Mathus (Squirrel Nut Zippers)\, The Muddy Roses
DESCRIPTION:Jimbo Mathus has blazed a singular path as a singer\, songwriter\, guitarist\, producer and shaman for 40 years\, recording and releasing more than 300 songs that are a testament to his hoodoo craftsmanship and to the sounds\, sights and spirits of his inspirations in the deep South. His new album\, Incinerator\, via Mississippi’s Big Legal Mess Records\, is the epitome of that art — an incendiary reflection of his world in music.\nMathus describes the 11 songs on Incinerator as “a huge tapestry of my experiences\, hard work and dedication to living a creative life. I really took stock of what I do and why I do it … why I weave stories and dreams and visions I have into songs. And I tried to squeeze every bit of meaning out of every note and every word I wrote and recorded. It’s impossible to separate this album from me. This is who I am.”\nFeaturing Matt Patton\, bassist of Drive By Truckers \nThe Muddy Roses’s sound is a beautiful balance of grit and grace that’s been captivating audiences around the San Francisco Bay. \nThe rich\, velvety soul of vocal bombshell Liz Lewis (West Virginia) and the band\, led by guitarist and songwriter John LoGiudici\, infuse destined-to-be-classic country and Americana originals with elements of blues\, bluegrass\, gospel\, and jam to create a unique and dynamic sound. Fiddle player Diana Greenberg and banjoist/pedal steel master Andrew Waegel launch sonic trips to the front porch and the honky-tonk bar\, while veteran Bay Area musicians Rob MacCloskey on bass and Rob Davis on drums keep the train running.\n— \n21+ with valid ID \nThe Uptown is located just around the corner from the 19th Street BART Station and is wheelchair accessible

DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, July 7\n9pm \nTopographies – topographies.bandcamp.com\nVacant Stares (Portland) – vacantstares.bandcamp.com\nFawns of Love – fawnsoflove.bandcamp.com \nTopographies  \nTopographies is a dreamy post-punk band from the Bay Area. Formed in 2018\, the band meshes guitars and hushed vocals of ’90s shoegaze with the urgency and mechanical rhythms of post-punk. “A hypnotic wall of fuzzy distortions and reverbs and repetitive drums\, backed by dreamy vocals\, all bathed in a lysergic\, obsessive and soaring haze\, that\, instead of imploding\, floating in a wonderful mess of melodies and swirling harmonies for a pure intense and emotional ending.” – White Light / White Heat \nVacant Stares  \nVacant Stares is a saturated goth band from Portland with brooding vocals and hints of cold wave and danceable synth pop. \nFawns of Love  \nFawns of Love is a dreampop duo from Bakersfield comprised of married couple Joseph and Jenny\, both of whom are also full-time educators – Joseph teaches middle school\, Jenny is a full-time instructor at CSU-Bakersfield. SUMMARY:KALX Presents: Cindy\, Blades of Joy\, Al Harper
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, June 27\n8pm \nKALX Presents\nCindy – cindytheband.bandcamp.com\nBlades of Joy – bladesofjoy.bandcamp.com\nAl Harper – alharper.bandcamp.com \nFacebook RSVP \nTickets \n  \nCindy \nCindy is a dreamy indiepop / sad rock band from San Francisco. They self-released their debut 12″ LP in November 2018. It has charted on KALX radio as one of the 50 most played records on air for three consecutive months\, topping in at #27. \nBlades of Joy \nBlades of Joy features ex-members of Swanox and Dissolve. Their debut LP was recently released by San Francisco indie label Melters. It is pure pop for poets\, rock for reality. How good this music is remains one of San Francisco’s most closely-guarded secrets\, but talk to the right people and you’ll find out what’s been causing murmurs of adoration and envy. Blades of Joy do wear some influences on their sleeves: listen for guitar lines that pull threads from the spooky and spectral coats of the DURUTTI COLUMN and FELT\, pull reels of tape from the wistful Tascam of ROY MONTGOMERY in his East Village years\, pull a gin-soaked paper towel out of the Levi’s jacket of the RED HOUSE PAINTERS. Vocals that channel the sublime clarity of KENDRA SMITH or BARBARA MANNING. A real rock band rhythm section capable of riding a cosmic groove guaranteed to delight Slumberland/Teenbeat aficionados. \nAl Harper \nAl Harper is an Oakland musician who fronts her soft rock / dreampop band of the same name. Her songs will make you weep discreetly as they drag you through a high school soap opera’s worth of emotions. \n$5 Advance | $10 At the Door\nwheelchair accessible | 21+

DESCRIPTION:Friday\, May 17\n9pm \nThe Y Axes – theyaxes.bandcamp.com\nThe Trims – thetrims.bandcamp.com\nHoney Cutt – honeycuttband.bandcamp.com \nThe Y Axes are a San Francisco-based indie outfit who play a unique blend of dreamy\, synth-glossed pop and rhythmically muscular rock. They create energetic and hard-hitting pop with intricate instrumentations and ethereal vocal melodies that can stick in your mind for weeks. Their latest album\, Umbra\, was produced by Aaron Hellam (Finish Ticket\, Rin Tin Tiger\, Black Map\, etc.) at Hellam Sound and released November 26. \n“The Trims are an Indie/Dance/Post-Punk band from San Jose. They have a sound reminiscent of early U2 and some ’80s – ’90s Britpop. The Trims were recently featured on MTV’s The Real World. \nHoney Cutt (fka Baby!) is a dreamy guitar pop trio from Boston. “Lead single ‘If I’m Sorry’ sounds at once apathetic and driven with its respective heavy\, humid reverb and background guitar solos. Lyrically\, too\, “If I’m Sorry” poses that hypothetical—a conditional of remorse or regret—that’s not entirely swayed toward either determination.” – Paste \n21+ | wheelchair accessible\n$8 Advance | $10 At the Door

SUMMARY:CAMP COPE\, An Horse\, Oceanator\, +DJ Fernando (KALX)
DESCRIPTION:**Orders placed for the sole purpose of resale will be cancelled** \nSaturday\, May 11\nDoors 8pm | Show 9pm\n$15 \nCAMP COPE\ncampcope.bandcamp.com \n \nCamp Cope have become somewhat of a force in music since forming in a Melbourne backyard over home job tattoos a few years ago. Shortly after the release of their acclaimed self-titled debut album\, Camp Cope launched the It Takes One campaign to say enough is enough: no more sexual and physical assault at shows. The widely-covered campaign continues to drive conversation around safe spaces at live music events\, including the implementation of an ongoing safe spaces Hotline initiative at Laneway Festival in Australia. \nTheir acclaimed sophomore album How to Socialise & Make Friends (2018) features the standout opener ‘The Opener’\, a rally cry which called the music industry to task on its sexist and inequitable structures\, and ‘The Face of God’\, a harrowing account of sexual assault at the hands of someone whose art you admire\, a song that “proved to be the most fearless and powerful thing the Melbourne trio could possibly do” (Noisey). \nThe album received widespread critical acclaim\, topping a slew of end of year lists including Brooklyn Vegan (#1 Best Album of 2018)\, Pitchfork (Best Rock Albums of 2018; ‘The Opener’ #24 Best Song of 2018)\, Billboard (#16 Best Rock Album of 2018)\, Bandcamp (#23 Best Albums of 2018)\, Stereogum (#41 Best Albums of 2018)\, The Guardian (Best Albums of 2018)\, and NPR (‘All Songs Considered’) Listeners Top 100 Albums of 2018)\, to name a few. \nThe energy at a Camp Cope show is rare. Not just because they write good songs that have the audience on their feet. They’re a band that takes action – they say no\, they stand their ground\, they take up space\, and the audience can feel the power from those words. They unite in a space that is truly equal as they scream back every word\, arms in the air\, veins pulsating. You can feel it in the air. It doesn’t just feel a show – it feels like an uprising. \nAN HORSE \n \nAn Horse is an indiepop duo from Brisbane\, Australia. They began making music together in 2007 and released their first two LPs on Mom + Pop. They are set to release their latest LP in April on Lame-O Records. \nOCEANATOR \n \nOceanator is the solo project of Brooklyn artist Elise Okusami. Oceanator oscillates between post-rock ballads\, grunge-punk\, and a bit of synth pop. Their latest EP was released by Tiny Engines in 2018. \n  \nThe Uptown\n1928 Telegraph Avenue\, Oakland\n21+ | Wheelchair Accessible \n

SUMMARY:Overland\, Radiokeys\, Dear County\, Northerner
DESCRIPTION:Overland\nA constant force at music venues and festivals through energetic bouts of electric aggression and emotion furiously flung without much care of consequence\, this four-piece alternative heavy rock band has built a solid following.Radiokeys\nSibling songwriters Stewart Patrick and Emily Helena Gude come together to form the band RADIOKEYS\, a musical entity that flirts with traditional sounds\, yet creates a unique\, jagged form of the blues and folk. They have grown from a two-piece to a four-piece band\, now including bay area musicians Allante Piazza on drums and Thomas Davis on bass.Dear County\nMark W. Lynn and Arrica Rose met when they were kids in punk bands\, then met again many moons later for the sake of love and country. Dear County began as just the two of them with some acoustic tunes\, but has now grown to include a full band line-up with Michael Smartt (drums) and Steve Boyd (bass\, backing vocals). \nNortherner\nThe group consists of the 3 remaining members of the Bay Area indie rock band\, Wave Array. Guitarist\, Nich Pak\, and bassist\, Johan Alfsen\, had been playing in and out of Bay Area bands together for over 10 years before forming the simple\, stripped down rock sound that is Northerner. Along their musical journey they met Ruben Rios\, an in-the-pocket\, heavy hitting\, and creative drummer who has also been a long standing memeber of the Bay Area music scene. With a strong natural chemistry\, the 3 found thenmselves writing simple catchy songs with an expressive\, hard hitting and deep emotional melody. \n21+ with valid ID

SUMMARY:Akes\, Love Jerks\, Fleeting Trance
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, August 16\n8PM \nAkes\nLove Jerks\n$8\n21+ | wheelchair accessible \nAKES\nConsisting of an audio engineer\, an author\, a videographer\, and a luthier\, the four members of Bay Area ensemble Akes take their music into their own hands; Nick Cafiero (electric ukulele/vocals)\, Joe DeMars (bass)\, Jack Hogan (guitar)\, and Dominic Bergamini (drums)—handle nearly every aspect of their creative lives in house. They are dedicated students of their craft from the gear they play to the music that influences them. \nThat mindset is a fitting accompaniment to their heady sound. Taking inspiration from the post-punk scenes in the U.K. and U.S. where dozens of bands allowed themselves the freedom to mash up instrumentation and musical textures\, Akes winds in the sounds of synthesizers\, sequencers\, and drum machines into already finely honed material cut from pop/rock cloth. These sounds are the beginnings of a new creative regime for a band that has already been wowing audiences in and around their Bay Area scene. \nAlthough the idea of nostalgia is a constant theme in their music\, the quartet doesn’t live in the past. Instead\, each member has channeled their experiences into a melodic complexity and poetic openness that resonates with their local Sonoma County home and beyond. The fluid nature of each song and the assured delivery of every note and verse speaks to the solidity of four intertwined paths\, years in the making. \nLOVE JERKS\nLove Jerks is a San Francisco duo who make future-sound New Wave anthems and dream-pop ballads that leave you no choice but to dance\, or swoon\, or both. The offspring of two longtime lead singers—Bryan & Rebecca. \nFLEETING TRANCE\nThe creation of bay-area songwriter\, producer\, and multi-instrumentalist\, Manasseh (Ma’NASA) Bernal\, Fleeting Trance is a project defying classification\, category\, and genre. It is instead a musical collage of approaches\, influences\, and instrumentation varying from song to song. The inclusion of multi-faceted musicians\, Craig Koozer (bass)\, Daren Wilkerson (drums)\, Scott Robertson (guitar)\, John Howard (pedal/lap steel)\, and Mike Chase (keys) serve to further compliment Bernal\, resulting in vastly unique and sensual soundscapes demonstrating widespread influences.
