SUMMARY:Rolling Thunder Redux - a Bob Dylan homage
DESCRIPTION:In conjunction with the hoopla around Bod Dylan’s 1975-76 epic Rolling Thunder Revue rock and roll tour de force which has included a Martin Scorsese film just released on Netflix and a monstrous 14 CD box set collection of concert recordings from the tour\, local music scene compatriots are now offering up an homage to the mythical concert tour with the Rolling Thunder Redux! \nLong time collaborators and Bay Area music stalwarts Max Baloian and freddi price (both of Rube Waddell\, Lord Loves a Working Man\, and too many local projects to mention) join with a cast of fellow Bay Area virtuosi to bring back to life this short lived moment in rock history! \nWith Mr. price holding down the Dylan duties and Mr. Baloian on bass\, and joined by Grammy nominated producer and guitarist Myles Boisen\, violinist Lila Sklar (Rosen Coven)\, hotshot studio session guitarist Jason Heninger\, veteren drummer Tim Rowe\, and country chanteuse Jill Rogers on vocals\, this ensemble cast promises to bring the spirit of the original Rolling Thunder circus back again for one night! \nJoined by guitar god Eric McFadden and vox goddess Robin Coomer’s Shake Well this will be a not-to-miss night of stellar local music! \n21+ with valid ID \nThe Uptown is located just around the corner from the 19th Street BART station

SUMMARY:CANCELLED - The Poetry Brothel: Cabaret Voltaire
DESCRIPTION:CANCELLED. \nThe Poetry Brothel: Cabaret Voltaire (The Dada Tour) \nThursday\, March 15 \nDoors 8pm | Show 8:30pm \nWelcome to a unique and immersive poetry event that takes poetry outside classrooms and lecture halls and places it in the lush interiors of a bordello. The Madame presents a rotating cast of poets\, each operating within a carefully crafted character\, who impart their work in public readings\, spontaneous eruptions of poetry\, and most distinctly\, as purveyors of private poetry readings on beds\, chaise lounges and in private rooms. For a small fee\, all of the poets are available for these sequestered readings at any time during the event. Of course\, any true bordello need a good cover; ours is an immersive cabaret featuring burlesque\, live music\, vaudeville\, aerials\, visual art\, magic\, mysticism\, with newly integrated themes\, performances and installations at each event. Join us this March for The Poetry Brothel: Cabaret Voltaire (The Dada Tour)\, where the spirit of the Cabaret Voltaire will slip past the doormen of our minds and doors and free us from our admittedly loose grasp on reason and reality. Musicians\, smash your instruments! Audiences\, take to the stage! The Poetry Brothel family will throughout the night stir the audience into our brew in new and unforeseeable ways. Come play with us\, darlings! There are nonsensical games to be won. Take your gloves off for this one and climb down the rabbit hole. We can’t wait to see the look in your eyes during this unique evening at the the Uptown Nightclub in Oakland. \nGeneral Admission $40 \nVIP $75

SUMMARY:Two Piece Tuesdays presents Queer Sessions
DESCRIPTION:We love our monthly Queer Sessions; a night of singer/songwriters\, wordsmiths and performers. Much wonder\, much pride. Enjoy a cool drink and wild expressions. No Cover. Performances between 8 and 10pm. \nFeature: ~ Jade VELVET \nBeautiful sounds of ache and wonder. Jade VELVET is comprised of Jade Way (lead vocals and rhythm guitar) Jake Peake (keyboardist)\, Issielle “Ice” Johnson (lead guitarist) and Joey D’Alfonso (drummer extraordinaire). https://jadeway.bandcamp.com/ \nKarinda Dobbins ~Motor City native Karinda Dobbins was born into a politically active family of skilled storytellers and sharp wits. Her worldview was shaped by their accounts of protest\, civil rights and empowerment\, weighty subjects that were always leavened with humor. Whenever she heard the grownups laughing long past her bedtime\, she took that as her cue to sneak out of her room and eavesdrop while they entertained themselves with Richard Pryor records. She not only listened\, she learned\, and grew up to hold her own as a keen comedic commentator. Dobbins moved from Michigan to California’s Bay Area and responding to repeated dares from a girlfriend who challenged her to try making the crowd laugh at an open mic. Spurred on by the enthusiastic feedback\, Karinda decided to see where comedy would take her and began honing her craft at more venues. To date\, she has appeared at the Bridgetown Comedy Festival; featured at Bay Area comedy clubs the Punch Line and Cobb’s; opened for Hari Kondabolu\, Trevor Noah and toured with W. Kamau Bell. Karinda made her primetime national television debut on Coast-to-Coast Episode 1 on NickMom Night Out. \nUpcoming Shows http://laffq.com/karinda.dobbins \nSamantha Sipin ~ A strong songstress. https://soundcloud.com/samanthasipin \nAlexis Blair ~ Guitarist\, bassist\, drummer\, singer\, songwriter. Alexis learned to love music at an early age. Raised on classic rock and blues\, schooled in punk and metal\, and comfortable in just about any setting\, as the guitarist for Nerd Rock band Kessel Run and drummer for Garage Rock band The Krypters\, she brings her voice\, passion\, and rock n roll know-how to the stage and the studio. www.AlexisBlair.com

DESCRIPTION:We love our monthly Queer Sessions; a night of singer/songwriters and performers. Much wonder\, much pride. Enjoy a cool drink and wild expressions. No Cover. Performances between 8 and 10pm. \nCo-Host ~ Kim Lembo \nFeature: ~ Cindy Emch \nThe Secret Emchy Society is the brainchild of Cindy Emch – the queer whiskey voiced singer-songwriter from bands Rhubarb Whiskey\, Vagabondage\, Feral\, and more. Her heart breakin’\, foot stompin’ old school country punk rebel americana music sounds a little like Neko Case and Nick Cave hanging out with a bottle of whiskey and a guitar. She writes songs that make you wanna get drunk and rowdy\, songs that make you want to cry\, songs that make you want to get in your car and drive…and sometimes songs that make you want to do all of those things at once. \nhttp://www.emchy.com/ \nKim Lembo: Finally settling into Oakland\, CA after years of writing new material she recently broke out with a 5th release some are calling her best album yet. 45 Miles promises to tell her story with Lembo’s unique perspective on life\, love and reflections. http://kimlembomusic.com/ \nWordsmiths ~ Anna Pulley\, Richard Loringer\, Kala H. \nWe will be continuing our Coming Out Stories Series

DESCRIPTION:Join us for our monthly celebration of Poetry\, Weird Film and Alt Music. There will be Taropy with Miss Ginger and cocktails too. There is no cover and much magic. 7 to 9pm. \nFilm ~ Jean Cocteau’s “The Blood of a Poet” (Le sang d’un poète). 1930. \n“Poets . . . shed not only the red blood of their hearts but the white blood of their souls\,” proclaimed Jean Cocteau of his groundbreaking first film—an exploration of the plight of the artist\, the power of metaphor and the relationship between art and dreams. One of cinema’s great experiments\, this first installment of the Orphic Trilogy stretches the medium to its limits in an effort to capture the poet’s obsession with the struggle between the forces of life and death.” \nThe film also features that great wild woman and astounding photographer – Lee Miller. \nScreening courtesy of Shannon Ellery Hubbell. http://www.shannonhubbell.com/ \nPoets: \nAndrew Paul Nelson ~ He was born in the desert.
