SUMMARY:Caress • The Acharis • Deathlist • Fawning + DJ Fernando (KALX)
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, November 14\n8pm \nCaress (Los Angeles) – caress.bandcamp.com\nThe Acharis – theacharis.bandcamp.com\nDeathlist (Portland) – deathlist.bandcamp.com\nFawning – graveface.bandcamp.com/album/too-late \nCARESS \nCaress is the synth / darkwave solo project of Los Angeles artist Tara Jane\, front person of noise pop / shoegaze band Blood Candy. Caress blends haunting melodies and cold breathy exhales that reign over echoed drum machines\, airy synths\, and reverb drenched guitar. Inspired by ’80s darkwave and modern synth pop\, Caress is known for her dark minimal arrangements. \nTHE ACHARIS \nThe Acharis is a distorted dreampop / post-punk duo from Oakland. In 2015 they were signed to indie label Exbtn in Paris\, France\, who released their first LP\, “Lost in the Vortex.” The band’s own take on recalling their teenage soundtracks honors a chaotic sonic dialogue between the two members; on one side lyrical ballad\, on the the other a brooding storm terminating in total annihilation. The Acharis have shared the stage with Cindy Lee\, Shivas\, La Luz\, The Americas\, Naomi Punk\, and more. \nDEATHLIST \nDeathlist is the solo recording project of former Summer Cannibals bassist Jenny Logan. Since 2016\, the prolific gothy post-punk musician has released four LPs and three EPs. The Portland Mercury calls her music “frenzied punk rock that riffs wildly until caught in a buzzy entanglement of guitar-driven chaos.” And Williamette Week raves\, “Deathlist is quickly becoming Portland’s most prolific\, carefully honed purveyor of post-punk.” \nFAWNING \nFawning is a new dreampop trio fronted by Cheyenne of Night School. Their music is equal parts serene and beautiful\, and at times borderline creepy. Cheyenne and Devin met many years ago\, and they originally formed Fawning as a recording project. In mid-2019 they added bassist Eddie and transitioned to a live band. Fawning cites Cocteau Twins\, Cranes\, and Julie Cruise as influences on their debut EP released by Graveface Records. \n  \nTickets \nFacebook RSVP

SUMMARY:Topographies\, Vacant Stares\, Fawns of Love
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, July 7\n9pm \nTopographies – topographies.bandcamp.com\nVacant Stares (Portland) – vacantstares.bandcamp.com\nFawns of Love – fawnsoflove.bandcamp.com \nTopographies  \nTopographies is a dreamy post-punk band from the Bay Area. Formed in 2018\, the band meshes guitars and hushed vocals of ’90s shoegaze with the urgency and mechanical rhythms of post-punk. “A hypnotic wall of fuzzy distortions and reverbs and repetitive drums\, backed by dreamy vocals\, all bathed in a lysergic\, obsessive and soaring haze\, that\, instead of imploding\, floating in a wonderful mess of melodies and swirling harmonies for a pure intense and emotional ending.” – White Light / White Heat \nVacant Stares  \nVacant Stares is a saturated goth band from Portland with brooding vocals and hints of cold wave and danceable synth pop. \nFawns of Love  \nFawns of Love is a dreampop duo from Bakersfield comprised of married couple Joseph and Jenny\, both of whom are also full-time educators – Joseph teaches middle school\, Jenny is a full-time instructor at CSU-Bakersfield. They have been married for 15 years and performing together for 18 years; recording\, touring\, and releasing music throughout that time under various names and labels. Paste proclaimed Fawns of Love\, “a dreampop gem.” \nThe Uptown\n1928 Telegraph Ave\nOakland CA \n1 block from 19th street BART\n1.4 miles from Mosswood Park 🚶🏻🍔 👀

SUMMARY:KALX Presents: Cindy\, Blades of Joy\, Al Harper
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, June 27\n8pm \nKALX Presents\nCindy – cindytheband.bandcamp.com\nBlades of Joy – bladesofjoy.bandcamp.com\nAl Harper – alharper.bandcamp.com \nFacebook RSVP \nTickets \n  \nCindy \nCindy is a dreamy indiepop / sad rock band from San Francisco. They self-released their debut 12″ LP in November 2018. It has charted on KALX radio as one of the 50 most played records on air for three consecutive months\, topping in at #27. \nBlades of Joy \nBlades of Joy features ex-members of Swanox and Dissolve. Their debut LP was recently released by San Francisco indie label Melters. It is pure pop for poets\, rock for reality. How good this music is remains one of San Francisco’s most closely-guarded secrets\, but talk to the right people and you’ll find out what’s been causing murmurs of adoration and envy. Blades of Joy do wear some influences on their sleeves: listen for guitar lines that pull threads from the spooky and spectral coats of the DURUTTI COLUMN and FELT\, pull reels of tape from the wistful Tascam of ROY MONTGOMERY in his East Village years\, pull a gin-soaked paper towel out of the Levi’s jacket of the RED HOUSE PAINTERS. Vocals that channel the sublime clarity of KENDRA SMITH or BARBARA MANNING. A real rock band rhythm section capable of riding a cosmic groove guaranteed to delight Slumberland/Teenbeat aficionados. \nAl Harper \nAl Harper is an Oakland musician who fronts her soft rock / dreampop band of the same name. Her songs will make you weep discreetly as they drag you through a high school soap opera’s worth of emotions. \n$5 Advance | $10 At the Door\nwheelchair accessible | 21+

SUMMARY:Near Dark Presents: Trisomie 21\, Houses of Heaven\, Riki
DESCRIPTION:Near Dark Presents: \nTrisomie 21 \nHouses of Heaven \nRiki \nTickets \nFacebook RSVP \nTRISOME 21 \n\nTrisomie 21 is a post punk band formed in 1981 by Phillipe Lomprez (vocals\, drums) and Hervé Lomprez (guitar\, electronics)\, two brothers from Abscon\, in the North of France. They began composing songs at the age of 16 while studying at school. The brothers were influenced by Kraftwerk\, The Residents\, Yello\, P.I.L as well as the films of George A. Romero. Their music consists of lush soundscapes that do not easily fit into any one category. Lyrics are sung in English because in the north of France the duo sought to contradict the trend at the time for everything to be sung in French. Musically their mood is melancholic and one can hear traces of Joy Division\, Durutti Column and The Cure. Since 1983 they’ve recorded 11 albums and appeared on numerous compilations and remain active to this day. \nHOUSES OF HEAVEN \n \nHouses of Heaven are a post-punk/shoegaze band from the Bay Area. Remnant\, their inceptive EP\, is a bleak\, dub-influenced production\, mixing elements of electronic music\, Krautrock\, and psychedelia\, with nods to the the extreme sonic treatments of Adrian Sherwood. Produced by Monte Vallier (Wax Idols\, Weekend)\, Remnant blends shifting textures of drum machines\, live percussion\, ambient guitar\, vintage delays and custom engineered effects. \nRIKI \n \nRiki is a synth pop band from Los Angeles.
