DESCRIPTION:On March 15\, California Governor Gavin Newsom requested all California bars\, music venues\, and nightclubs close immediately and indefinitely to help curb the rampant spread of COVID-19. California is taking these dramatic steps to slow the rate of infection and reduce the number of deaths by giving doctors and hospitals a chance to treat the most serious patients without becoming overwhelmed by a tsunami of patients at once. Like you\, we are saddened by the events surrounding us at the moment\, but this apparent setback will help benefit the safety and health of our community at large. Thank you for your continued patience and support. We look forward to reopening when the time is right. DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, July 26 \nFEELS\nSeablite\nGalore\n+ DJ Fernando (KALX) \n$10 | $12 \n  \nFEELS \n \nFEELS is an Echo Park\, Los Angeles based post-punk / glam-grunge / krautpop band fronted by madly talented Laena Geronimo of The Like (Geffen Records) and some of her band mates from Raw Geronimo (Neurotic Yell Records). FEELS is presently one of Southern California’s most intriguing bands. They combine punk rock intensity with lush layers of dreampop. \nFEELS released their debut live album in 2015 on Lollipop Records\, followed by their wonderful debut S/T studio album on Castle Face Records in 2016. Their new album\, Post Earth\, is out now on Wichita Recordings. \nSEABLITE \n \nSeablite are a jangly and melodic indiepop band from San Francisco\, featuring former members of Wax Idols & Dirty Cupcakes. Receiving an abundance of critical acclaim for their debut EP on Death Records in 2017 and debut LP on Emotional Response\, Seablite graced 2020 with a lovely new EP in February called High-Rise Mannequins. \nGALORE\n \n  \nGalore is an emerging diy indiepop / jangle-punk band from San Francisco featuring members of Rays and Rainbow. Their Demos cassette quickly sold out on Bandcamp after self-releasing it in December of 2018. Their highly anticipated debut LP is due out in May 2020 on Sonny Smith’s label\, Rocks In Your Head. \n  \nThis event is 21+ and wheelchair accessible. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:GOFUNDME FOR THE UPTOWN \nThe outpouring of online support has been heartening. Our hope is that some of our supporters can also help us financially. \nWhen we were ordered closed\, our first concern was for our staff who cannot work from home and who depend on their paychecks and tips to survive. Thankfully we live in the great state of California that understands this concern and is providing unemployment benefits immediately. \nNow we must concern ourselves with making sure we can continue to pay our bills in order to be able to reopen and reemploy our staff. Most of the expenses of operating a nightclub don’t go away when the doors are closed (rent\, utilities\, music licensing rights\, insurance\, etc). Being a small independent business we have nowhere to turn for help except to our wonderful patrons. \nWe understand many of you are also a part of the creative community and hit hard by all of this too. But if any of you can give any amount it is much appreciated! \nLooking forward to life after this crisis when we can hopefully welcome you all back to The Uptown.

DESCRIPTION:Dear Uptown Community\,\n\n\n\nIt is with deep sadness that we announce that The Uptown Nightclub will not be reopening. With no date in sight when live entertainment will be safe\, we just cannot afford to continue to pay our rent and other expenses with no income in the foreseeable future. This was a heartbreaking decision and one we put off as long as we possibly could. \n\n\nThe Uptown was never a financial investment for us – it was always a labor of love and the dividends it paid are measured in the wonderful friendships that sprung from the shared love of music. Knowing that these friendships will endure despite the closure of our beloved space offers some consolation in these dark days. In the six months that our doors have been closed due to the pandemic\, we have missed you all so much!\n\n\n\nWe miss the faces we saw nearly everyday and those we saw weekly or monthly when it was the night for ‘their’ event – be it Active Music Series\, The Lucky Devils Band or Two Piece Tuesdays\, Moonlight Comedy or Uptown Karaoke\, Suavecito Souldies or Fleetwood Macrame\, Hanging Garden or Death Guild\, 1UPtown with The M.A.D.E. or Hella Gay Dance Party\, Hubba Hubba or Risque Riot\, Smart Bomb or DAMgrown\, Hiero Nights or Nerd Nite\, 8x8x8 or I Love You For All Seasons\, Punk Black or Dark Sparkle; be it a local band playing their first show\, a touring band about to make it big\, or a lifelong music legend. So many talented people have played our stage and so many amazing patrons have been there to enjoy them. It was an honor to make these connections possible. We strived to represent and welcome the diversity of the Bay Area. In that we succeeded and we will be forever proud of this accomplishment.\n\n\n\nThank you all for being part of our lives.\n\n\n\nAnd a very special thanks to our fantastic staff who made every event\, and our lives\, that much better!
