SUMMARY:Fleeting Trance\, Shark Alley Hobos\, Stymie & PJLo\, Jessie Bridges
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, November 10 \nDoors 8PM | Show 9PM \nFleeting Trance\nShark Alley Hobos\nStymie & PJLo\nJessie Bridges \n  \nFleeting Trance 11:30pm\nWebsite \nThe creation of bay-area songwriter\, producer\, and multi-instrumentalist\, Manasseh (Ma’NASA) Bernal\, Fleeting Trance is a project defying classification\, category\, and genre. It is instead a musical collage of approaches\, influences\, and instrumentation varying from song to song. “I like to think we have multiple styles without blending them all into one song\,” says Bernal. “I don’t think we are a one-trick-pony. The longer people listen\, the more they will understand what connects us to the various musical forms and styles that we are putting out there. I want to put opposites together because life is such a horrible contradiction.” Fitting\, as the name Fleeting Trance reflects the juxtaposition of various concepts. “This project is my goal to marry music styles I love that aren’t supposed to be found together in the same room.” \nShark Alley Hobos 10:30pm\nWebsite \nSinger\, songwriter\, guitarist\, and San Francisco Bay Area treasure\, Mikie Lee Prasad followed the stars and gathered a ragged band of his most trusted musicians who shared a love of the sea\, sharks\, pirates\, New Orleans\, and hobos. Out of this grog-infused meeting the Shark Alley Hobos were spawned. Drawing upon timeless ballads of the sea\, modern day spirits-inspired sing-a-longs\, and original songs of wanderlust and debauchery\, the Shark Alley Hobos will have you shivering your timbers and raising a glass to good friends and good times. This group of ne’er do wells\, with their passion\, punctuality\, and crowd-pleasing roguery\, have led many an awestruck bartender to lament\, “We’re gonna need a bigger bar.” \nStymie & PJLo 9:30pm\nFacebook \nIt ain’t easy being stankalicious. This is especially true if you are an independent entity. But the funk is proving to be more relevant in the 21st century than ever before. Case in point: the recent revival and revitalization of Stymie and the Pimp Jones Love Orchestra\, a San Francisco-based\, multi-piece outfit lead by singer/songwriter Sean “Stymie” Sharp. \nJessie Bridges 9pm\nBandcamp \nJessie Bridges is an Indie/Folk Singer-songwriter from Santa Barbara\, California. While her influences are more overtly apparent at times\, it is clear that she is carving out a musical path of her very own. Lovers of Wilco\, Rilo Kiley\, Tom Petty\, and The Beatles\, are sure to find many reasons to love the music that Jessie is putting out into the world. \n21+ | wheelchair accessible

SUMMARY:Piedmont Schools Rocktoberfest 2017
DESCRIPTION:Join us Friday\, October 20th\, at the Uptown Nightclub in Oakland for Rocktoberfest 2017\, a Piedmont-palooza celebration of music featuring three rock and roll bands made up of parents from Beach\, Wildwood and Havens elementary schools. \nThe event is a fundraiser for the Piedmont Education Foundation and all proceeds go to the Tri-School fund for Piedmont schools. \n$40 Advance\n21+ with valid ID \nThe event features three bands: \nMiss B Haven formed at the Havens’ Poker Night\, when some frustrated musicians realized they were better off playing dusty instruments than playing cards. Miss B Haven aims to bring back the deep bluesy rock songs about finding love\, losing it and the longing to get it back. Throwing in some horns and funk influences\, the band plays some classics but also puts their punchy touches on some upbeat tunes that will keep people singing along and moving their feet. The band features Jared Stivers and Alexis Papahadjopoulos on guitar\, Jeff Hiller on bass\, Ross Blaufarb on drums\, Barry Barnes and Boyd Nielsen on horns\, Josh Sadikman on keys and Claire Karoly on vocals. \nBajadres is an eclectic mix of Beach musicians\, smooth rockers\, folk rockers\, heavy metal rockers\, Rhythm & Blues\, and Funk players. The All-star line up includes: Aaron Fisher and Patrick Collins on Guitars\, Hugh Louch on bass\, Tod Pucket on keys & guitars\, Brian Weiss on saxes and Tim Wright on drums. These Beach dads have either been in bands\, currently are in bands\, have played in the famous Beach Revue band\, or have played drums for Primus. They’re coming together\, fusing their musical talents for one night of dynamic 70’s/80’s and modern sound. “When we do the Beach Battle of the Bands in the spring\, we all bring different bands and compete with each other\, when we play together for Beach Revue we have to sit way back in the mix\, so this is our chance to bring these great players together front and center…at full volume.” \nThe Wild Woodsmen initially became acquainted by jamming around campfires for Wildwood Elementary School camping trips. Soon more organized (and electric) performances started. The current incarnation of the Wild Woodsmen originally came together to provide some live entertainment for the 2014 Wildwood Dads Club’s annual Crab Feed benefit. It wasn’t long before the ad-hoc gathering of musicians became a true band\, they now play regular gigs along with each of their own projects. The Woodsmen feature Hal Marcus and Jim Fleser on guitar and vocals\, Jeff Hiller on bass\, David Hicks on guitar\, bass and drums\, Adam Christensen on drums\, and Rob Gotto on lead vocals.

DESCRIPTION:Guitar legend DICK DALE returns to The Uptown Nightclub! \nGET TICKETS! \nSaturday\, October 14 \nDick Dale \nThe Hot Toddies \nDoors 8PM | Show 9PM | 21+ \nDick Dale \nLegendary instrumental guitarist and musical innovator Dick Dale pushed the limits in terms of both technical stylings of guitar playing and of electric amplification technology\, helping to develop new equipment that was capable of producing the thick\, clearly defined tones he sought\, at the previously undreamed-of volumes his playing demanded. He experimented with reverberation and utilized custom-made Fender amplifiers\, including the first-ever 100-watt amp. He is credited with introducing the use of reverb and his staccato picking technique became his trademark. \nInfluenced in part by the jungle drum rhythms of jazz great Gene Krupa\, Dick Dale created his own genre of music in 1955\, and is widely considered one of rock and pop music’s most technically gifted musicians. His innovative style has influenced countless artists spanning from the 1950s until today; including Jimi Hendrix\, Eddie Van Halen\, The Beach Boys\, The Ventures\, Jeff Beck\, The Cramps\, and La Luz. \nDick Dale was the first rock guitarist to appear on the Ed Sullivan show in 1963\, the same year  he became the first rock guitarist to be featured in a double page layout in Life Magazine. His music has appeared in numerous films\, including Pulp Fiction\, Escape From LA\, Space Jam\, Barbed Wire\, American Vampire\, and Jesus’s Son\, to name a few. \nDale’s style and how he wanted his guitar to sound pushed the industry to make new and better equipment which we now take for granted. Dale kept blowing up amps until Leo Fender went to one of his shows and realized what Dale had been asking for. As a result\, a special 85-watt output transformer was made that peaked at 100 watts. This in turn necessitated a speaker that could handle that power without blowing up from the thick sound coming out of Dale’s guitar. Leo went with Dale to the James B. Lansing loudspeaker company. What came out of that meeting was the 15″ JBL D130F loudspeaker. Dale thus broke through the electronic barriers of his time and could play the music as he wanted it to sound. \nFender still makes a signature guitar for Dale called the Dick Dale Custom Shop Stratocaster\, which is fitted with “Custom Shop ’54” pickups. And Dale continues to play with his original unit dating from the early 1960’s. He also continues to string his left-handed guitar upside down. \nWatch Dick Dale’s Misirlou \nDick Dale Website \nRolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Guitarists \n  \nThe Hot Toddies \nThe Hot Toddies\, an all-girl band from Oakland\, CA mix sunny beach pop\, indie rock riffs and a dry sense of humor. Heidi\, Erin and Sylvia are best friends who have been playing music\, drinking whiskey and writing songs together since 2005. They’ve toured across the US\, Canada and the UK in support of their 2 albums “Smell the Mitten” and “Get Your Heart On” out on Asian Man Records. Their latest EP “Bottoms Up” was released on Tricycle Records in Feb 2013. \nWatch The Hot Toddies’ Jaguar Love \nThe Hot Toddies Bandcamp \nThe Hot Toddies Facebook \n  \nTickets are limited! \n

SUMMARY:Two Piece Tuesdays:The Kim Lembo Project & Gina Villalobos
DESCRIPTION:Two Piece Tuesdays is proud to present the wonderful music of Gina Villalobos & Kim Lembo as well as the film My Darling Clementine. \nMusic ~ Gina Villalobos & Kim Lembo \nFilm courtesy of Shannon Ellery Hubbel of www.lewtonbus.net\nMy Darling Clementine is a 1946 American Western film directed by John Ford and starring Henry Fonda as Wyatt Earp during the period leading up to the gunfight at the OK Corral.\nFilm courtesy of Shannon Ellery Hubbel of the www.lewtonbus.net \nGINA VILLALOBOS\nKnown for holding her heart up in all its vulnerable lucidity\, her lines & melodies scrape away the layers of denial that get us through the everyday. Like the realist short stories of Raymond Carver\, her songs are visceral anthems in which one senses the bottom has fallen out\, making visible the seriousness of what’s at stake\, the songs affirm that possibility has always existed…and in fact still exists. \nVillalobos became one of the most acclaimed new artists in the alternative country community with her breakthrough album\, 2005’s Rock N Roll Pony when legendary BBC disc jockey Bob Harris called it “a contender for album of the year.” Her follow-up release\, Miles Away\, increased her profile and cemented the album as “timeless and combines every element that makes a recording a classic…” (Paste Magazine).\nVillalobos’ fourth solo album\, Days on Their Side\, reveals “a new depth with the slightest shift in light…taking the Lucinda Williams/Sheryl Crow model to a new level.” -(American Songwriter magazine). Her most recent offering\, Sola was described as “confident & instantly addictive.” (Mojo Magazine) \nIn late 2015\, Villalobos wrote and produced music for the Golden Globe Award– and Emmy Award–winning Amazon Studios TV show Transparent. The derivative work of the 1971 Sly and the Family Stone hit “Family Affair” featured the vocals of Ruby Friedman and was used in the trailer promoting the launch of the show’s second season. \nVillalobos is nothing if not dead serious. Her music is deeply rooted in time\, place\, and history. She’s the real thing: an artist\, someone who can show you where you are.\nwww.ginavillalobos.com/ \nKIM LEMBO\nKim Lembo is a Bay Area Musician with 30 years in the music business. In the 90’s and early 2000’s\, she was signed with indie label\, Blue Wave Records as well as French label\, Sky Ranch Records\, a subsidy of Virgin Records. With 4 releases under her belt\, she left the label’s and set off for the Bay Area to take a short hiatus from the business. The short hiatus turned into 15 well lived years.\nIn 2015 she came back strong with her self-released 5th album\, “45 Miles”\, an intimate portrait of her life in relationships and love. A slight departure from the blues/rock she had been doing\, “45 Miles” is more country blues and roots than rock/blues but as always\, features her soulful sound.\nCurrently\, Lembo can be found playing throughout the Bay Area and Pacific Northwest either solo or with her band “The Kim Lembo Project”\, a collection of rotating bay area musicians bringing everything from rocking guitar to middle eastern oud. The sound is raw\, original and retro. This in addition to producing events focusing on featuring women with her songwriting series and podcast\, Grab Em By The Songs.\nWhether with her full band or\, solo Lembo brings blues\, with an edgy soulfulness combined with poetic lyrics and storytelling. Her voice is big and echoes a kind of Etta James meets Lucinda Williams if they played in a band with Janis Joplin. It is the sound of music you cannot define by a singular genre. She sings from her soul with songs written from the heart.\nLembo has played all over the US and has recorded in France\, California\, and NY. From the stages of Paris to hiking up the side of the Great Wall of China with a guitar and a slightly broken foot\, she has brought her uniquely deep and powerful voice to thousands throughout the world. Lembo has a voice to be reckoned with and a story to be shared.\nKim Lembo can be found in the Bay Area California rabble rousing and playing/producing events.\nShe is originally from Syracuse\, New York.\nhttp://kimlembomusic.com/ \nStay after for the Active Music Series.
