SUMMARY:Two Piece Tuesdays presents Silvio Correia & Evolution
DESCRIPTION:Two Piece Tuesdays is proud to present the wonderful Brazilian artist and activist Sylvio Correia and the film Evolution. \nEvolution ~ a 2015 French horror-thriller film directed by Lucile Hadžihalilovi?. It was shown in the Vanguard section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. Seas\, starfish\, and growing.\nFilm courtesy of Shannon Ellery Hubbell of www.lewtonbus.net \nMusic ~ Silvio Correia\nBorn in Salvador / Bahia in the seventies. Silvio Correia has developed an artistic style with an eclectic composition. His style and presence encourages interpretation of music in a visceral way and has veins of existentialism.with elements of countless citations of people who cherish radical. It invites listeners to reflect on their freedoms\, and to express themselves\, to love\, and to think. Silvio Correia ‘s music is lyrically clever and musically diverse. It arouses curiosity and a sense of sensuality because it speaks to raw experience. \n“My music has social and political undertones. I am concerned with the chaos in current politics and talk about Global Warming\, Black Lives Matter\, All Lives Matters\, LGBTQX rights; the 1%\, and the all of violences around which we live these days. In short\, all stories of our communities and our world. \nMy music explores inevitable dualities in life. Pleasure and sadness\, insanity and desire-Yin and Yang. My song\, “Oh World” is about my desire to spread love and music as my contribution to paradise and a call for others to reconnect to themselves too. To perform a collective reconstruction of our world with love. \nI’m excited to be collaborating with so many highly respected and gifted artists including …. Marcos Odara (Percussion)\, Vicente De Jesus (sound engendering\, drums\, recording)\, Collin Miller (Viola)\, Danilo Portugal (Various)\, Silvio Correia/Me (guitars/vocals). \nThe vibrant melodies exude energy. Together we are lively\, and our unique guitar riffs and harmonies take you on a musical journey through Brazil. My lyrics are derived from inner experiences and in collaboration\, through our music\, we bring the stories to life.” \nHighlights of the show include the songs\, “Pretty More then Pretty-Linda Simplesmente linda\,” “Salve Salvador\,” and “Alvorecer.” \nStay after for the Active Music Series.

SUMMARY:Grab 'Em By The Songs\, September 2017
DESCRIPTION:The September lineup is here! \nKim Lembo-Founder Grab ‘Em By The Songs \nThe Kim Lembo Project is a collection of rotating bay area musicians fronted and founded by Kim Lembo. Whether with her full band or\, solo Lembo brings Blues\, Roots and Americana soulfulness combined with poetic lyrics and storytelling. Her voice is big and echoes a kind of Etta James meets Lucinda Williams if they played in a band with Mary Gauthier. It is the sound of music you cannot define by a singular genre. She sings from her soul with songs written from the heart. Lembo has played all over the US and has recorded in France\, California\, NY. Originally from Syracuse\, NY she currently resides in the Bay Area\, California. \nMya Byrne\nRecently relocated to San Francisco by way of NYC\, Mya Byrne is a poet\, award-winning performing songwriter\, and activist. A proud trans woman\, she established her solo folk-Americana career in 2012 after years of performing with roots-rock band\, the Ramblers\, opening for acts such as Levon Helm.\nMya’s been featured on many great festival and club stages across the country. Her first solo record hit #31 on the roots charts\, and the follow-up\, As I Am\, is out now. Recently chosen as an Emerging Artist at the legendary Falcon Ridge Folk Festival\, her music and poetry have also been featured in such media as SingOut!\, The Advocate\, Village Voice\, New York Magazine\, MSNBC\, and CBS/Radio.com\, with public speaking at institutions including SUNY and the UU. \nKress Cole\n“Kress songs make the ordinary sacred” – Dar Williams\nKress Cole is an Oakland-based queer Femme songstress who has won 26 WCS awards\, including winning “Song of The Year” in both Berkeley and San Rafael. Her song “Seatbelt” earned a nomination for “Lyric of the Year” WCS 2016. She is touring with her new 2017 album\, “The Alchemy Show”.\nKress cares a lot about fighting the erasure of femininity in queer spaces. She also writes under the artist name FemmeVisible. Kress has an everlasting crush on good old tomboys. That major crush is all over her songs. \nSpecial Guest-Lauren Hulbert\nLA born\, Oakland based folk rock singer/songwriter Lauren Hulbert can be found performing with her acoustic or electric guitar. Fans have said that perhaps the biggest draw to her music is her voice and have likened her music to Feist\, Lissie\, Ingrid Michaelson and Regina Spektor. Her songs\, heartfelt and manifestly poetic\, illuminate upon the bittersweet essence of the human condition\, where love\, pain\, and beauty are intricately interweaved into our everyday lives.\nLauren will be releasing an EP this year. She is currently working on songs for her next album and performing around California. It’s going to be awesome! \n  \nTuesday\, September 5 \n7:30 – 10:30 PM \n21+ \nwheelchair accessible

Fronted by long time partners Connie (sax) and Jesse (bass) Walkershaw\, the band mines the rich musical veins of Americana\, Latin Rock\, and Soul into a mix that’s stepping ahead\, rather than looking back. \nThei music passes the American Bandstand test of having a good beat and danceability\, although the rhythms come from a plurality of backgrounds. It’s full of surprises\, yet firmly based in the traditions of Brill Building Pop\, Colombian Cumbia\, Yiddish Theatre\, Post Bop Jazz\, British Invasion Rock\, and whatever else falls to hand.\nFacebook Event Page\nBlonde Toledo’s Website \nTuesday\, August 29\n7PM – 10PM\nFREE\n21+\nwheelchair accessible

SUMMARY:Two Piece Tuesdays Presents Lee Vilensky Trio
DESCRIPTION:Every Tuesday evening The Uptown NIghtclub hosts Two Piece Tuesdays; a free live music showcase in our front room. This week\, Two Piece Tuesdays brings you San Francisco’s Lee Vilensky Trio. \n“MY FAVORITE SONGS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN INSTRUMENTALS\, ESPECIALLY WHEN ACCOMPANIED BY IMAGES\, FILM SCORES IN PARTICULAR….MUSIC THAT EVOKES A SCENE\, SOUND AS A PRELUDE TO ACTION AND MOVEMENT. \nI WANTED TO ASSEMBLE A BAND THAT PLAYED ALL INSTRUMENTALS SO THAT GROOVE AND FEEL\, MELODY AND HARMONY\, COULD BE FULLY ENJOYED\, UNENCUMBERED BY LYRICS. FORMED IN 2000 FROM THE REMAINS OF THE SWINGIN’ JOHNSONS\, WE DECIDED TO SWITCH THE FORMAT TO ALL INSTRUMENTALS DUE TO THE UNPREDICTABLE BEHAVIOR AND GENERAL UNSAVORY APPEARANCE\, HYGIENE AND HABITS OF MOST VOCALISTS. WHAT STARTED AS A SIDE BAND FOR WELL TRAVELED BAY AREA SIDEMEN\, HAS EVOLVED INTO ONE OF SF’s MOST POPULAR INSTRUMENTAL GROUPS AND THE PROGENITORS OF THE GENRE\, “SPY/SOUL”. OUR NEW CD\, “DESTINATION: LOVE”\, ON 658 RECORDS\, IS NOW AVAILABLE @ CDBABY\, ALONG WITH OUR 2011 RELEASE\,”DIRTY DEALINGS ON A LATIN MOON” – Lee Vilensky \nTuesday 8/22\n7-10PM \nFREE\n21+\nwheelchair accessible

SUMMARY:Active Music: Jupiter Blue\, Perkis / Farhadian\, & Nucci / Glickman
DESCRIPTION:Jupiter Blue \n“What powers your ship?” Sun Ra’s single smiling answer: “Music.” From the Arkestra’s engine room\, Jupiter Blue’s tone scientists D.Hotep and Jupiter Girl emerge to reveal elements and precepts of another kind of language\, another tomorrow\, learned through years of discipline to be given freely in the present for all who can hear. Hotep’s own\, ARP (Akimbo Research Projects)\, develops through-composed and free-improvised performance based on sonification of pitch-sets derived from elemental particles. Expect the never expected as electronics\, electric guitar\, celestial vocals\, percussion\, and violin call forth shadows of unseen worlds. \nYouTube \nKim Nucci & Dmitri Glickman \n\nNucci and Glickman arrive at the Uptown by hovercraft after Nucci’s successful residency at ACRE in Wisconsin where she developed visual as well as sound art concepts. Nucci and Glickman first collaborated in Bennington\, VT and have reunited in Oakland\, around the experimental and noise scenes in the East Bay. SUMMARY:Two Piece Tuesdays Presents: 2 Rocks From the Sun & Film
DESCRIPTION:Two Piece Tuesdays is proud to present the sweet jazz expressions of 2 Rocks From the Sun. We will also be showing Jean Cocteau’s Beauty and the Beast. Music starts at 7pm. \nMusic ~ 2 Rocks From the Sun. Featuring J-Rock (Justin Rock) on guitar and J-Rocc (Jenelle Roccaforte) on bass. 2 Rocks From the Sun features Bay Area guitarist Justin Rock AKA J-Rock and Miss Jenelle Roccaforte AKA J-Rocc on upright bass. They transverse through the musical universe of jazz while also exploring elements of soul\, blues\, rock\, and improvisations. As a duo they have open space to play off each other and aim to have a unique experience each time they perform. \nBeauty and the Beast\nJean Cocteau’s 1947 sublime adaptation of Mme. Leprince de Beaumont’s fairy-tale masterpiece—in which the pure love of a beautiful girl melts the heart of a feral but gentle beast—is a landmark of motion picture fantasy\, with unforgettably romantic performances by Jean Marais and Josette Day. The spectacular visions of enchantment\, desire\, and death in Beauty and the Beast (La Belle et la Bête) have become timeless icons of cinematic wonder.\nFilm courtesy of Shannon Ellery Hubbell of www.lewtonbus.net \nStay after for the Active Music Series.
