Music from 8 to 10pm. \nPresenting………Alzara & Brother Spellbinder \nAlzara & Brother Spellbinder play well-crafted songs that might be defined as cabaret-folk rock with a dreamy\, old-world ache and a modern melodic edge.\nBrother Spellbinder veers off the beaten track with plaintive vocals\, unusual arrangements\, and a variety of textures. Incorporating elements of folk\, gypsy jazz and indie\, the music moves from rousing and infectious to dreamy and fragile. Lyrics flow from the uncensored mythical realm of the human psyche to the here and now of human experience. Brother Spellbinder aims to enchant in the age of disenchantment. \nThe daughter of Big Brother & The Holding Co.’s original drummer – Dave Getz – singer/songwriter Alzara Getz grew up in a rock-n-roll scene and learned early that music could move mountains. As a public health social worker her deep interest in how people heal – or not – is a source of inspiration for songwriting. After years of performing with a variety of bay area bands she decided it was time to lead her own. She formed Brother Spellbinder with roots guitarist Jamie Wilson in 2012. Wilson was an early graduate from San Francisco’s School of the Arts High School and counters Alzara’s dulcet voice with a dollop of gristle. Rice masters graduate Gabriel Beistline adds transcendent melodies and velvet bass tones on cello. Seasoned drummer Steve La Porta steers the songs with steady and intricate rhythms. Empathy FX is a true global partnership\, from its foundational roots to its management philosophy. In the past 7 years\, Empathy has built 5 schools which serve over 900 primary school students in Ghana. Our volunteers continue to open free clinics and treat over 100 malaria patients\, free of charge\, every year. The group’s work is focused on creating a New American Folk form (Real Life Rock & Roll) that combines traditional folk sources with improvisation\, R&B production elements\, early-aughts emo\, & astral projection. Their first LP\, Fuck Everybody\, You Can Do Anything\, was released in 2015 on Full Spectrum Records. They are currently working on the follow up & will be playing all new pieces at Active Music.  \n————————————————————————- \nRICARDO SAAVEDRA + KIM NUCCI \nMultimedia artists Ricardo Saavedra and Kim Nucci explore memory\, narrative and digital fragmentation through live electronic performance and video. We are interested in modern dreamscapes using and the cybernetic transfiguration of flesh body and spirit. \nKim Nucci (OAK) is a multimedia artist/composer who also plays saxophones. She is interested in exploring concepts of cybernetics\, dystopia\, and erosion. “As a composer\, I am deeply engaged with concepts of ensemble networking and interface\, player autonomy and the multidimensional spectra of relationships that can exist between composer and performer\, conductor and ensemble\, outer-self and inner-self.” She is currently pursuing another master’s degree in Electronic Music and Recording Media at Mills.  \nRicardo Saavedra (BRA) is a new media artist and performer based in Oakland\, CA. Seeking to expand the limits of musical performance and digital arts\, his work explores the intricacies of expression that become possible as new\, hybrid art forms develop. Ricardo explores tones and textures throughout the use of electronics\, sample manipulations\, and synthesized tones. The result is often detailed\, rich and immersive. With a big focus on structure\, rhythm and stretched out melodies\, his sonic landscapes build and expand slowly.
