The latest test results show\, apparently\, the tumor is much closer to an artery than was originally noted. Hence the reason for my extreme shortness of breath and weakness. This is a concern\, in that I may not be able to sustain the original surgery as planned. However\, he has to go in to determine if he can remove the tumor without creating trauma to the artery and my breathing capacity. If not\, he will discontinue the surgery and we will have to proceed with radiation treatment. This would not be the best option\, but it is ‘an option’! With everything else going on…this is now a little bit more to take in! I was resigned to the surgical procedure we originally discussed and planned…this “curveball” places a new spin on things! Wow! My “big sis/warrior” is down…and here I stand in this dark\, lonely space…truly praying (now) for a miracle! \nWORDS from Auntie Sharyn Grayson:\nY’all keep us both in your prayers. DESCRIPTION:AMS PRESENTS \nSHANNA SORDAHL::::::::\nShanna Sordahl is a sound artist and composer based in Oakland\, CA. Using amplified cello with analog and digital electronics and installation art as her primary mediums\, Shanna’s work is a continual exploration of one’s relationship to both sound and physical spaces. She emphasizes timbral changes\, the resonant body of objects\, and the re-contextualization of sound through the use of unconventional playing techniques\, feedback\, and audience immersion. Shanna strives to create sonic and physical spaces that induce a focused state of awareness\, where one is encouraged to reflect on or reconsider their relationship to sound\, people\, spaces\, and ultimately\, ideas. \nHer current focuses include a fascination with blurring the lines between performance spaces and installation to emphasize the transformative potential of these events. Seeing intricate connections between the experience of music and day to day life\, Shanna cannot separate music from its social implications and lived realities. She views sound immersion and performance as methods for processing and re-contextualizing past experiences while simultaneously imagining and creating new possibilities for the future. \nWith an MFA in Electronic Music and Recording Media from Mills College\, Shanna has studied composition with Laetitia Sonami\, Chris Brown\, James Fei\, and Matt Rogalsky. She has performed and worked with a variety of composers and artists including Alvin Lucier\, Trimpin\, Wrekmeister Harmonies\, and Sarah Davachi\, and with the choreography collectives Wax Poet(s) and Simpson/Stulberg Collaborations. Her work has been presented at the 2013 International SuperCollider Convention and in 2015 she was awarded the Paul Dresher Artist Residency. Last year’s show was such a success that we decided to revisit the concept this year. Hence the 2.0 \nThis year expands the style and sounds of the show from the standard jazz literature to mostly originals by Patrick Anseth & Aaron Germain. Both musicians featured on this event often accompany others\, but here they’re the focus\, on the platform sharing their creativity and musicianship with the community. \nARTIST INFO \nDynamically\, Patrick Anseth’s ability to travel the guitar neck lyrically as well as his capacity to find colors and sounds through a chord progression are awe inspiring. His artistry is emotional\, expressive\, and melodious. Anseth can be heard performing with his trio\, dPaJo\, which had their debut at Davies Symphony Hall during the SF Symphonies holiday concerts this year\, as well as Cava Menzies\, June & Man\, and Geechi Taylor. Musicians will be performing pieces from his upcoming debut solo album\, ranging the styles of latin\, jazz\, fusion\, and more. Aaron’s abilities and talents are something that the world needs to experience. He is often compared to the legendary Jaco Pastorius\, but perhaps he is actually like none other. He has recorded on nearly 40 albums\, and has performed throughout the United States. He has also toured and performed in Canada\, Japan\, Indonesia\, England\, and Egypt. Germain has recorded two solo albums and is currently finishing up a third.
