Grab ‘Em By The Songs, September 2017
FREEThe September lineup is here!
Kim Lembo-Founder Grab ‘Em By The Songs
The Kim Lembo Project is a collection of rotating bay area musicians fronted and founded by Kim Lembo. Whether with her full band or, solo Lembo brings Blues, Roots and Americana soulfulness combined with poetic lyrics and storytelling. Her voice is big and echoes a kind of Etta James meets Lucinda Williams if they played in a band with Mary Gauthier. It is the sound of music you cannot define by a singular genre. She sings from her soul with songs written from the heart. Lembo has played all over the US and has recorded in France, California, NY. Originally from Syracuse, NY she currently resides in the Bay Area, California.
Mya Byrne
Recently relocated to San Francisco by way of NYC, Mya Byrne is a poet, award-winning performing songwriter, and activist. A proud trans woman, she established her solo folk-Americana career in 2012 after years of performing with roots-rock band, the Ramblers, opening for acts such as Levon Helm.
Mya’s been featured on many great festival and club stages across the country. Her first solo record hit #31 on the roots charts, and the follow-up, As I Am, is out now. Recently chosen as an Emerging Artist at the legendary Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, her music and poetry have also been featured in such media as SingOut!, The Advocate, Village Voice, New York Magazine, MSNBC, and CBS/Radio.com, with public speaking at institutions including SUNY and the UU.
Kress Cole
“Kress songs make the ordinary sacred” – Dar Williams
Kress Cole is an Oakland-based queer Femme songstress who has won 26 WCS awards, including winning “Song of The Year” in both Berkeley and San Rafael. Her song “Seatbelt” earned a nomination for “Lyric of the Year” WCS 2016. She is touring with her new 2017 album, “The Alchemy Show”.
Kress cares a lot about fighting the erasure of femininity in queer spaces. She also writes under the artist name FemmeVisible. Kress has an everlasting crush on good old tomboys. That major crush is all over her songs.
Special Guest-Lauren Hulbert
LA born, Oakland based folk rock singer/songwriter Lauren Hulbert can be found performing with her acoustic or electric guitar. Fans have said that perhaps the biggest draw to her music is her voice and have likened her music to Feist, Lissie, Ingrid Michaelson and Regina Spektor. Her songs, heartfelt and manifestly poetic, illuminate upon the bittersweet essence of the human condition, where love, pain, and beauty are intricately interweaved into our everyday lives.
Lauren will be releasing an EP this year. She is currently working on songs for her next album and performing around California. It’s going to be awesome!
