Jennifer Johns with YahZarah
$15 – $20YahZarah’s performances are effortlessly electric. She encompasses the tenderness of Adele, and the fierceness of Madonna. YahZarah is a diva with healing power. She is the archetype of an urban pop Joan of Arc. With the audacity of Prince.
District of Columbia born Ghanian singer and songwriter, known to most as YahZarah, began her career as a background singer for Erykah Badu. She has performed her music live on stage with “The Roots” and traveled the world as a member of Lenny Kravitz’s band and was a featured vocalist in his documentary “Just Let Go” (2015). Along the way YahZarah has released four solo albums including “Hear Me” , “Black Star”, “The Prelude” and “The Ballad of Purple St. James” which was considered for a Grammy in 6 categories.
Now after a hiatus of 6 years YahZarah returns with “The Ceremony” an uplift EP inspired by an art project she premiered during 2016’s “Art Basel” in collaboration with contemporary photographer Fabiola Jean-Louis based on reclaiming her power. Her new single “Running” – featured in Spike Lee’s Netflix series “She’s Gotta Have It” – is a “battle cry for us to keep our minds on love, transcendence and hope”.
