The Rap Contest is a single elimination contest, where 16 contestants compete for a cash prize of $1000! Performing (1) minute and (30) thirty seconds each round, with a total of 5 rounds. The winner who eliminates 5 opponents after five rounds, wins the $1000 cash prize live on stage!

Funky Thursdays is the first Thursdays of the month residency for Trace Repeat, Motown-inspired soul and funk band from Oakland with nods to James Brown, Michael Jackson, and Prince.
For the past 11 years, The Uptown has hosted a free showcase of bands we feel deserve your attention. This month includes Shark Punch, Lucky Eejits, and Elderly Abuse. Doors open at 5pm for Happy Hour; first band goes on at 9pm.

Bart & The Bedazzled a band from Los Angeles featuring former Bay Area singer-songwriter Bart Davenport. Anna Hillburg is a San Francisco musician formerly of Bay Area indiepop darlings Dreamdate. She will be playing with her full band. Mark Nelsen is a singer-songwriter who often performs as Quiet Domino. DJ Matokie of KALX will be spinning records between sets.

d’PaJo is an eclectic ensemble that focuses on their mutual love and appreciation for a myriad of musical styles – gypsy jazz, jazz standards, great American songbook, Latin, and any other music that speaks to them. As a collective, they have performed internationally on more than two continents and in a dozen countries. Featuring violinist Justin Ouellet, bassist Joe Kyle Jr, and guitarist Patrick Anseth, who is also the director of the Jazz Guitar program at OSA.
